Bariatric Operation FAQs

Surgeons performing bariatric operation in Cedar Park

The choice to undergo weight loss surgery is a major decision. It’s important to carefully consider your treatment options and have a thorough understanding of what to expect before, during, and after the procedure.

B+A Surgeons is a family team founded by Dr. Nicole Basa and Dr. Alan Abando over 16 years ago. As a practice that specializes in bariatrics, we have created a destination in Cedar Park for patients who want to improve their health in a safe, caring, and judgment-free environment.

If you are considering weight loss surgery, we want you to have all the information you need to make an informed decision about your treatment. In this blog, we’re sharing some of the most frequently asked questions we hear from patients before their bariatric operation in Cedar Park.

What are my options for weight loss surgery?

At B+A Surgeons, we offer three effective options for weight loss surgery.

Gastric Sleeve

Gastric sleeve surgery removes approximately 70% of the stomach to restrict caloric intake and reduce hunger signals.

Gastric Bypass

Gastric bypass reduces the size of the stomach and re-routes a portion of the digestive system to decrease caloric absorption.

Modified Duodenal Switch (SADI)

The modified duodenal switch procedure combines a sleeve gastrectomy (where we remove part of the stomach) and a gastric bypass (where we reroute the intestines).

Do I need to lose weight before my weight loss surgery?

We require patients to lose 5–10% of their body weight prior to surgery. We do this to help ensure your long-term weight loss success. Our team will help you accomplish this!

What is recovery like from weight loss surgery?

We perform minimally invasive weight loss surgery with the assistance of a surgical robot. This helps decrease pain at the incision sites and reduces the recovery time after the procedure. Most patients are up and walking within hours after surgery. You’ll follow a strict dietary progression of liquids, purées, and soft solids for 2 to 3 months after the procedure.
