Navigating your options for weight loss surgery can feel overwhelming. At B+A Surgeons, we are here to give you the tools, resources, and support you need to make informed decisions about your healthcare.

B+A Surgeons is a family team founded by Dr. Nicole Basa and Dr. Alan Abando over 16 years ago. As a practice that specializes in bariatrics, we have created a destination in Cedar Park for patients who want to improve their health in a safe, caring, and judgment-free environment.

If you are considering weight loss surgery, know that you are not alone. We have helped thousands of patients lose excess weight with surgical and non-surgical treatments. In this blog, we are discussing one of our effective procedures for weight loss—the modified duodenal switch (SADI).

Understanding the Modified Duodenal Switch

The modified duodenal switch is a combination of two effective procedures for weight loss—the gastric sleeve and gastric bypass.

In the first part of this surgery, we remove a large portion of the stomach to restrict the quantity of food needed before feeling full (similar to a gastric sleeve surgery).

In the second part of the surgery, we bypass a section of the small bowel to reduce calorie absorption (similar to a gastric bypass).

This combination procedure helps restrict food intake while also reducing the amount of calories you absorb from food. Our modified duodenal switch in Cedar Park is best for individuals with severe obesity who haven’t found success with other weight loss efforts.

Benefits

The modified duodenal switch is an effective procedure that helps:

  • Decrease appetite
  • Reduce caloric absorption
  • Patients to achieve a high amount of weight loss
  • Patients who have a lot more weight to lose (typically those who need to lose over 150 lbs. to get into a normal weight range)
